Diabetes can have a very serious emotional component associated with it’s ups and downs. Often, the actions of other people effect what goes on inside. The best thing to do is to put a smile on your face and let that radiate out to others, no matter what has happened to you. Master Chunyi Lin of Spring Forest Qigong has a great acronym for smile:

Start
My
Internal
Love
Engine

One of the best ways to help you is to help others by sending out love to them – by putting a S.M.I.L.E. on your face.

Try it and see what happens.

I’ll bet you’ll find that when you smile at someone they will smile back. If you notice what a smile does to you and your feelings, if you’re like me it will give you a postive warm feeling.

Just one simple way to reduce stress, feel good and lower your blood sugar naturally.

To lowering your blood sugar,
“Just 30 minutes a day of moderate physical activity can significantly reduce Type 2 diabetes symptoms.”

This is a true statement. Often times the ideas that are simple and obvious are overlooked. Don’t overlook the simple ideas as they can save a limb or even your life.

Get busy and get moving – just 30 minutes a day will reduce Type 2 diabetes symptoms – If 30 minutes all at once is not possible, break it down to 2 times 15 minutes or even 3 times 10 minutes. Use your muscles and naturally burn up the extra insulin.

I went to a football game last weekend – The Ohio State Buckeyes (#1) were playing the Wisconsin Badgers (#21). It was a fun time. I invited by oldest brother to go with me. We had a great time watching the Buckeyes win to retain their No. 1 ranking in the college football polls.

So what does this have to do with lower blood sugars and fighting diabetes. Well, one of the cheers that everyone does during the game is to spell out O – H – I – O. Each side of the stadium will yell out “O” and then the next side will yell “H” and then “I” and finally “O”. This then starts all over again. The point is that if only one person yelled out a letter, it would not be very loud, but when 25,000 people yell out each letter, it is very loud indeed.

As individuals we may feel helpless at facing the task of keeping glucose levels down. As a team we can face it with strength and courage and win. As a group or a team of people we can beat it and control the glucose levels.

A team makes the challenge much simpler. A team made up of your doctor, family support, nutritionist, fellow diabetics, other experts who have info on the web, in books, and magazines. When everyone plays their role and adds just a little, a great foe can be defeated without breaking a sweat. Well, maybe a little sweat when you exercise on a regular basis.

Together
Everyone
Achieves
More

Form a team and keep your blood sugars low.

To your continued success at lowering blood sugar with common sense,

National Diabetes Month, 2007

A Proclamation By the President of the United States of America
Diabetes is a debilitating disease that affects millions of Americans of all ages and all walks of life. National Diabetes Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about risk factors, prevention, and treatment of this serious disease.

Diabetes is a chronic illness that leaves the body unable to produce or properly use insulin to maintain healthy blood glucose levels. The two most common forms of the disease that affect our citizens are Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes, is usually diagnosed in children and young adults who are unable to produce insulin and require daily medication. Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease, is often attributed to lifestyle risk factors and can be controlled by a modified diet, regular physical activity, and medication. Americans can take steps to control the disease and lower the risk of complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease by maintaining healthy eating and exercise habits, and consulting with a doctor about diabetes testing.

My Administration is committed to providing better care for people living with diabetes and furthering efforts to find a cure. We have supported research initiatives and education programs that encourage healthy living, and we have also modified Medicare coverage to include diabetes screenings. This year, the National Institutes of Health estimates that more than $1 billion will be spent on diabetes research. By working together, we can help identify problems early, manage them before they grow worse, and help ensure more Americans live longer, healthier lives.

Throughout National Diabetes Month, we recognize the medical professionals, scientists, researchers, and all those whose efforts have made a positive difference in the fight against diabetes. By raising public awareness, we can help combat the effects of diabetes in our society and bring hope to children and families living with this disease.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 2007 as National Diabetes Month. I call upon all Americans to learn more about the risk factors and symptoms associated with diabetes and to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirty-first day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.

GEORGE W. BUSH
